Leslie has an unusually diverse performing career – spanning classical and contemporary dance companies to Broadway musicals, acting in straight plays, in film and TV projects, singing in cabarets, creating choreography and writing original librettos for short operas. As a teacher, she uses these different techniques and ways of understanding story-telling to illuminate the challenge or material at hand.
In 2015, Leslie danced in LA Opera’s production of GHOSTS OF VERSAILLES while also performing of a lead role in an intimate musical, INSIDE OUT. She understudied theatre icon, Laurie Metcalf, in the West Coast premiere of the play TREVOR, while choreographing SIDE SHOW for 3D Theatricals.
Leslie has had the opportunity to write several librettos for LA Opera. In August 2015 they premiered THEN I STOOD UP; The Cycle – a short opera highlighting stories of young people’s courageous acts during the Civil Rights Movement.
2016 started with a challenging role in an original play, COLONY COLLAPSE, at Boston Court. Leslie created original choreography for THE FULL MONTY (LADCC nomination – Best Choreography) and HELLO DOLLY (2016 10 Best – OC Register) for 3-D theatricals. She played Masha in VANYA SONIA MASHA & SPIKE for ICT and Diana in LEND ME A TENOR at La Mirada.
2017 started with choreography for the LA Philharmonic’s production of John Adam’s opera, NIXON IN CHINA, at Walt Disney Concert Hall. She followed that with choreography for the One Night Only Benefit in Palm Desert and the great honor to collaborate on an Original and Re-imagined production of OKLAHOMA (3-D Theatricals). She managed to also perform a dream role as Lola in DAMN YANKEES with San Diego Musical Theatre.
On Broadway, Leslie originated the role of Anne in LA CAGE AUX FOLLES as a teenager, was the first replacement in VICTOR/VICTORIA with Julie Andrews. She’s a proud alum of Hubbard Street Dance Chicago, the Dayton Ballet, and the Shakespeare LAB at The Public Theatre NYC.
Her on-camera work includes leading roles in Feature films TROUBLED CHILD (Lifetime Movie Network) and THRESHOLD (2016), several festival-winning short films and TV guest appearances on “True Blood”, “Criminal Minds”, “Private Practice”, “The Fosters”, “Revenge”, and recurring roles on “Young & the Restless”, “Bosch” and “Goliath”.
